Sprint Planning

Sprint Planning

Capacity Planning

This is the first activity in Sprint Planning. The PO/SM asks each team member about their availability for the duration of the current Sprint. Each team member tells if they have any planned leaves, the PO/SM notes down all the leave information and arrives at the teams final capacity for the current Sprint

Create Sprint Plan

Sprint Planning is the first event in Sprint. Entire Scrum Team participates in it. The PO explains the importance of the current Sprint and the Scrum Team decides what Product Backlog items will be considered for the Sprint based on the available capacity. Sprint Goal is defined. Developers comeup with a plan to complete these items

Sprint Goal, the Product Backlog items considered for the current Sprint and the plan to complete them is called the Sprint Backlog

Backlog items are further refined if required. Developers create Tasks or Sub-Activities if needed and add effort in terms of days

Developers decide among themselves on who should work on what items and assign it to themselves

Create Sprint

During Sprint Planning, we identified the backlog items for the current Sprint, defined the Sprint Goal and also chalked out the plan to complete the backlog items. We now just created the Sprint Backlog with the above details

The duration of the Sprint usually remains the same for all the Sprints. If the duration has to be changed, the Scrum Team has to discuss this in Sprint Retrospective and change it in the next Sprint
